A Google Branded Netbook?
Google seems to be going all out this year. It seems like they have a lot more planned for their upcoming Chrome OS Operating system than once thought.
This week we heard the most fascinating news yet that Google may actually be partnering with a select number of companies to provide what the news media is calling a “Google Branded NetbooK”. What this means exactly remains a mystery, but what we may postulate is that these netbooks will have a Google logo (e.g. like an Apple Mac logo) etched onto the device; these devices will also be designed with Chrome OS in mind and hence will be very well optimized for it.
This is then an interesting change from Google’s business model as we see them moving closer into the hardware field (assuming these rumours are true). We have already seem Google’s strong presence in the phone hardware market were they have been pushing for their Android Operating System.
Nevertheless, the rumours are still yet to be confirmed as Google seems to be keeping a tight lid on it’s upcoming Chrome OS. Despite the secrecy, what we do know is that Google announced that they will be working with a number of manufacters: “The Google Chrome OS team is currently working with a number of technology companies to design and build devices that deliver an extraordinary end user experience. Among others, these companies include Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba.”
What is not clear is the nature of this “working together”, it may simply be to make sure that netbook hardware works efficiently with their Chrome OS but yet as shown by recent romours, this may turn out to be more than just that.

thats cool but I’m thinking that this is just another useless addition to the overkilled netbook market
