Apple launched it’s so called ‘Ipad’ Today….what kind of name is that? Some say they named it after a dollar store tampon! Never the less Apple thinks it hit the nail on the head with this one. They are comparing the innovations in Ipad to the great quantum leaps made by Iphone when it was first launched.

Now the question is; why is Ipad relevant? What does it add to Apple’s already extensive product line? It seems as if the Iphone, Ipod Touch and Apples myriad of latops already do all the same things Ipad does. For example, why would one buy an Ipad if one already owns an Iphone or an Ipod Touch? Surely one can surf the net, listen to music, watch music and much more with an Iphone. Worse still the hediously named Ipad will run on an Iphone based OS. In other words, you’re buying an obese Iphone, it may look pretty (if you like the extra weight) but it does the exact same things. On the other hand though, it is understandable that a larger screen will go a long way for those who surf the internet a lot, those who watch movies and play games..but can’t one get a netbook for that for at least $500 less?

Apple’s launch though seemigly a ludacris “dip into the tablet pool” already presents a potent threat to Chrome OS. Chrome OS seems to be slowly gravitating towards Tablets and netbooks; with Apple’s early launch, Google will need to step up it’s game.

Even so, there is hope for Chrome OS; it offers cheaper machines with similar functionality. In the last week Google revealed that Chrome OS will have a native media player hence this removes the threat by Ipad which will be a media intensive device like all of Apple’s other “creations”.
