Google Chrome to be spurred on by Chrome OS?

According to Web analytics firm Statcounter, use of Google’s Chrome Browser has grown considerably to roughly 7% of total market share. This is quite an achievement considering that the Chrome Brower was only released 18 months ago. Unlike other web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox; Chrome is not bundled with any operating system and is a completely “stand alone” browser which relies solely on consumers “choosing” to use it (Firefox for example is bundled with Ubuntu, IE is bundled with windows and Safari with Mac OS).

It is interesting to note though that some anticipated faster market share growth for Chrome due to Google’s colossal advertising campaign. Despite Chrome being showcased on the most frequented website on earth (Google) and being actively advertised on bilboards and radio in the UK; tv advertising in Japan; the browser only grew to a 7% market share of which even though it is quite a lot (as mentioned thereof), it could be argued that it’s not good enough. Google even took the liberty of  pushing all it’s Chrome adverts into it’s ’Ad-sense’ feeds and exposing their browser on the largest advertising network on earth.

Even so it is  interesting to note that despite Chrome’s “purely user choice” driven growth (rather than bundling like other browsers) this is set to change. The long anticipated Chrome OS is coming out soon and it will run Chrome as it’s internet browser; due to the hardcoding of Chrome to Chrome OS, it would be impossible for the suer to choose e.g. Opera or Firefox for instead.

This therefore means that if Chrome OS is the success that it is expected to be, it will surely spur on the growth of the Chrome browser and by the end of 2010, we may witness Chrome overtaking Firefox for the first time.  This is still all hinged on Chrome OS’s success and it’s timely release.
