Google Releases Gmail Interface For Ipad
Google has released a new interface for Gmail especially designed for the Ipad’s touch screen in time for it’s release latter on Today. Since the announcement of the much anticipated device there has been a lot of jockeying in the developers community to code the first Ipad specific software in time for it’s launch. It has come as a surprise though that Google (an obvious competitor of Apple) has jumped onto the Ipad bandwagon so quickly. Nevertheless, here is what Google published on it’s ‘Mobile Blog’:
While surfing the web on your iPad, we expect many of you will want to check your Gmail. If you go to gmail.com in your browser, you’ll see something different than what you’re used to on the desktop. We’re releasing an experimental user interface for the iPad built on the Gmail for mobile HTML5 web app that we launched last year for the iPhone and Android devices. Those devices have large screens compared to other phones, and tablets like the iPad give us even more room to innovate. To take advantage of the iPad’s large display, we’ve created a two-pane view with your list of conversations on the left and messages to the right.
For now, we haven’t been able to test this new interface due to the very fact that one would need an Ipad to experience it. Nevertheless it is worth noting that Google’s ambitions are not set only for the Ipad but the future release of Chrome OS which will most probably run on Tablet devices in the near future.
