Multi-touch Announced For Chrome OS & Linux

Multi-touch Announced For Chrome OS & Linux

Synaptics Inc has released it’s ‘ Synaptics Data Suite’ for Linux based Operating systems. This will be the first time that the open source world will get a hand at multi-touch gestures that are now standards on most Apple and Windows computers, mobile phones and tablets.

This is indeed exciting news for those in the “Linux world”; even more so for those who are awaiting the release of the much anticipated Google Chrome OS. According to Synaptics, Chrome OS is one of the operating systems that will benefit from this release. Below is what Ted Theocheung, head of Synaptics PC and digital home products & ecosystem had to say:

“The Synaptics Gesture Suite for Linux enables our OEMs to leverage a broad range of gesture capabilities across Linux operating systems, and offers extensibility into new Linux flavors such as Google Chrome OS and additional support for touch-enabled remote control devices,”

This is indeed good news and hopefully we’ll be seeing the implementation of this new feature in the next releases of the most popular Chromium OS distributions. More so we’ll hope to hear how Google implements multi-touch into their upcoming Chrome OS. Multi-touch will be essential in the development of the much rumoured Chrome OS Tablet device. We wait with bated breath..
