Ubuntu To Ditch Firefox For Chrome – it’s about time!

Rumours coming in are suggesting that Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 will be ditching Firefox as it’s browser of choice. For years now Ubuntu (a Linux based open source distro) has flaunted it’s seemingly happy illegitimate marriage to Mozilla’s Firefox. This then comes as surprising news; but with closer consideration, going Chrome could be the best thing for Ubuntu.

Due to the fact that Chrome (the browser) is open source ( Chromium) it is understandable that Ubuntu (another open source project) could benefit from utilizing it. Chromium will be a lot more configurable and easier to tailor make for Ubuntu’s latest Netbook Edition.

Another attraction for Chrome is ‘Chrome 5′, which is now the fastest beta release by Google thus far. It’s even faster than the latest version of Firefox 3.5.9; not withstanding the beautiful and clean looks of Chrome. Below are some latest benchmarks of Chrome 5 (beta):
