AS Google’s Chrome OS Nears Release
After Over a year of anticipation, Google’s first ever (computer) operating system will be complete. According to reports from the Internet giant, Chrome OS should be virtually finished by the third quarter of this year (September). It’s then imperative to take these few moments before it’s release to forecast the coming few months for Chrome OS.
Companies to watch
More or less 5 major computer manufacturers have declared their interest in Chrome OS. This leaves many Google fans hoping that this interest will translate into actual Chrome OS devices.
We expect that Dell and Acer will be the two dominant companies in the market. It is likely that both companies will push to be the first movers in time for the Christmas season. Other companies that have been traditionally allied to Google such as HTC will probably shy away from the Chrome OS market and may rather stick to Android in the mean time. This can be assumed only due to HTC’s silence and seeming lack of interest in Chrome OS.
Devices to expect
It is clear that Google is aiming to appease the netbook market as they have time and time again insisted that netbooks should be; and will be the foundation of the operating system’s success. This means that the vast majority of Chrome OS devices will unsurprisingly be netbooks.
On the other hand there is a general expectation that some manufacturers such as ‘Freescale’ will experiment with tablets which will supposedly compete with the likes of the Apple Ipad. It also goes without saying that many other small scale manufacturers, especially those in China will also churn out a couple of these Chrome OS tablets in much the same way they are doing with Android tablets. By no means though should one wait with bated breadth for Chinese Chrome OS tablets as they will only be as useless as their Android counterparts.
The only hope for the Chrome OS tablets will be the more stablished companies that might actually release some devices worth mentioning. It is expected that such companies as Acer, Dell, Asus or even HTC may venture into the Chrome OS tablet market by mid 2011.
The Impact Of Chrome OS
It is no secret that Google hopes that Chrome OS will be as great a success as Android. Hence in much the same way that Google spent many millions advertising the Chrome Browser, it is no great feat to imagine how much more they will spend to push their operating system toward the consumer.
Netbook sales that had began to hit a peak will begin to resurge. This will ignite a fierce battle between the two great platforms; tablet vs netbook which will protract until the very end of 2011.

Wonder if I could download a copy for my good ol Acer aspire one?
Hopefully this will be possible with Chromium OS. I doubt that it will be possible with Chrome OS due to Google’s stringent hardware requirements (e.g. SSD drive, arm processor e.t.c.).

I don't know about others, but I am interested in a Chrome full-sized notebook, with maybe 15" screen. I am hoping they can make a very light notebook with instant-on and the same responsiveness I get from the ipod touch.
I think it will be quite a wait before a Chrome OS device of that size is released. But I am sure that Google will attempt to expand the scope of the OS. After all,who knew that Android would end up on tablet devices?
Can't wait.
