Google Chrome OS Beta By Christmas?

Google Chrome OS Beta By Christmas?

News just coming in from Techcrunch reveals that Google may still be on track for a Chrome OS release this year. It is more likely though that this ‘release’ will be a Chrome OS Beta rather than the full retail version of the OS. This comes as great news after the recent shocking revelation by Eric Schmidt that Chrome OS might be delayed for a few more months. It is a reprieve to know that at least a Beta may be ready in the next few weeks.

‘MG Seigler’ (the writer from Techcrunch) who ‘asked Google’ to expound on the subject of Chrome OS’s release date explains:

I asked Google today if they were still sticking with the “later this year” availability of Chrome OS — the answer I got? An enthusiastic “yep!”

Seigler goes on to explain:

But just in case, I decided to follow up and ask if that meant an actual shipping product was coming or some test version of the OS? The answer there was much more murky. “We’re not going into details at this point,” is what I was told.

If this article is anything to go by, we can disregard the hysteria that came after the Web 2.0 Conference. It seems like Chrome OS is more or less on track.

Even so, we have seen many articles that have claimed things that have never come true so it is worth taking Seigler’s article with a pinch of salt. After-all, the sources from Google are unnamed and their answers to his questions are suspiciously brief.

For now, we await the Beta…if it will ever arrive.
