Hexxeh Installs Android on CR-48 Notebook
Hexxeh has done it again; a few days ago came ‘Luigi‘ and now he’s hacked his CR-48 Chrome Notebook to run Android OS. You may remember that a few months ago he even hacked an Ipad so that it could run Chromium OS. We recieved the news with much schepticism but it turns out he actually did it!
In what seems a usual fashion Hexxeh simply tweeted an image of a CR-48 running Android OS (titled: Android, meet ChromeOS). There were no details as to what version of the operating system he is running (though it seems like Android 2.2 or 2.3); neither were there any details of how he did it. Even so we are quite sure he will reveal how in the coming few days.
A growing concern…
There is a growing concern as to how CR-48 Notebooks are being hacked and dismantled by the developer community. Of -course Google gave people the permission to do what they want with them but some bloggers (and users) are beginning to wonder if some people are shortchanging Google by not testing Chrome OS and are rather installing Windows or OSX on their devices.
Some would argue that due to the relative rarity of CR-48 Notebooks and the high privilage that some have of recieving one from Google; they should perhaps focus their efforts on doing what Google gave them the device to do; testing the Chrome OS beta.
Nevertheless, whatever side of the fence you may take, you have to admit that the amount of CR-48 hacking that has been going on for the last few days is pretty awesome!

Holy Googly Mooglie. Granted I’m of the camp that droid wouldn’t do too well on a non-touch based environment, but yea just…. yea. I’m impressed. Might try it at some point in the future just to see what’s what.
Then again when/if I ever crack Crate open I want to have better ram and a bigger SSD I can drop in while i”m there.
when can we see Android 3.0 on the cr-48

welcome!!
I have a CR-48 and actually enjoy the idea of what it stands for but am not really into it, but will continue on testing. My hopes is Google will reward those of us who keep the virginity of our CR-48's intact.;)
Virginity….. LOL
All of these hacks are completely reversible to factory settings. Anything Google could possibly "reward" you with will be available to everyone.
Why does doing the right thing have to be argued? You agreed to something – do it. I think it's cool that Hexxeh has hacked it and I think it's OK for people to check it out. But they should revert and use the Cr-48 as agreed. ONLY if Google comes out and says – 'yeah, we don't care what you do with it – our $ investment is no big deal'. Of course, at some point in time Google will no longer need user reports from the Cr-48 and then when it is obsoleted – one can argue to use it for something else.
All of you, Stop Bickering. Google asks *Specificially* you *TRY* to use the cr-48 as your primary comp. you’re free too install ubuntu or others onto it as long as you keep testing!
are there instructions online somewhere on how to install Android 3.0 on the cr-48
I am going to argue on the hackers side. Google made it so that you can hack the computer. I am currently running both google chromeos and ubuntu on my cr-48. I beleive that google wanted the hardware hacked. They knew that out of the 60,000 cr-48 about 3k would be hacked. That leaves 57k or so still testing chrome OS. This is a great strategy to crowd source the testing of how the hardware plays with other OS and options. That to me seems like a win for google! (the numbers in this arguement are made up but are more than likely not that far off.)
@Britec09 i did eaxltcy as you said but when the virtual PC boots up, it just shows a black background with an underscore, can anyone help. =)
