Google To Ship More CR-48′s This Month
Over the the last few weeks thousands of lucky CR-48 owners around the USA have had a chance to play around with Google’s Chrome OS Beta. Yet on the other hand a lot of ‘international’ Google fans have been left out in the cold and are still anticipating the possible extension of the program beyond the USA.
During the last few weeks it seemed as if there was more bad news coming for even those still awaiting shipment of Google’s Chrome Notebook within the USA. Google stopped shipping CR-48′s during the Christmas period and hasn’t sent out a single unit ever since. This has left many frustrated and annoyed as after-all, only 15,000 CR-48′s have been shipped (at the writing of this article) out of a projected 60,000.
Good News – More Shipments are coming
Well, for all those who are still left in limbo, you’ll be glad to know that it seems as if Google will continue CR-48 shipments this month. A tweet by Sundar Pichai from earlier on this week confirms this; he was asked by a prospective CR-48 owner (bryantdunivan) if Google was still pressing on with their initiative:
Yes we will have another batch that will ship out this month. Should be an exciting few months ahead.
So, there you have it, from Google’s Product VP. Keep checking the CR-48 Tracker and hop into the forums to stay up to date with what’s going on. It’s probably just a matter of days until you get your CR-48 (fingers crossed).

I just got mine today and I applied a couple times in Dec.
did you get an e-mail first, or did it just show up?
it just shows up…
i never got a email it just showed up by ups
mine just showed up this morning. wasnt expecting to even get one.
… and I applied the first day…
UPS man showed up today, didn't get an email or anything. Was a good morning.
i just got mine two days ago and i applied shortly after thanksgiving… dont give up hope for those of you who applied in december
Just got mine today! What an awesome surprise!
No email or anything! I can not even remember when I signed up. I figured I would never get one. I guess they found out that I was Microsoft hater. I was also one of the first to get a Google Voice number.
Wow, bonus! Two years of Verizon internet access free! Sweet!
I just got mine today! No prior notification. Just UPS at the door with a brown package. While the Verizon package is good for users without a smartphone with tethering capability. Can I just tell you that if you have a myTouch 4G with an unlimited plan from T-Mobile….it tethers PERFECTLY without ANY EXTRA CHARGE and NO DATA LIMIT!!!
I'm so HAPPY!!! Even with some of the current limitations….I can't run my network simulators (I'm studying for the CCNA) or tell how much internal memory I have at my disposal or be able to access my SD card (yet)….I am so happy I was chosen for the test because the unit is definately worth the patience for additional functionality.
It's also unfortunate we are unable to obtain a unit for minors (I don't want to share mine!) because this unit is GREAT for kids….much better (faster) than a netbook. The BIGGEST complaint my daughter would have is currently Chrome does not support ooVoo. It's available on the Android Market for mobile but it's not on the Chrome App store….at least not yet….
