samsungchromebook51 Samsungs Series 5 Chrome Notebook Specs/Pics

Folks, here are the glorious pictures of the just announced Samsung Chrome Notebook. It will be called the Samsung Series 5 And will sell for $429 (Wifi only version) and $499 (3g) respectively. The device will begin shipping on the 15th of June and will be on sale online from Best Buy and Amazon.

The Specs:

  • .79 inches thick
  • A full-sized keyboard
  • Multi-touch trackpad
  • Intel dual-core CPU (Editor’s note: Samsung originally listed this as a “1.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo N570 CPU,” then updated with a vaguer “dual core CPU” spec. The N570 is an Atom processor, which leads us to guess this will be an Atom, and that “Core 2 Duo” was a typo.)
  • A SuperBright display at 300 nits, with a 16:10 aspect (no pixel resolution given)
  • Instant-on from standby, and an 8-second boot time
  • HD webcam
  • Two USB ports
  • 8.5 hours of battery life
  • SD/SDHC/MMC card slot
  •

    1. They really dropped the ball on the price point.

      • Agreed. My Google Chrome OS netbook isn't anywhere near worth $400-500. I wouldn't pay more than $200 because it is underpowered/slow, doesn't even have a usable file system (yet?,) and an iffy touch pad that is really difficult to right-click. On the positive side, the instant-on-low-power consumption standby is awesome. I almost never turn my netbook off… just flip the lid and your browsing.

    2. Too expensive by $100. Weight??

    3. 400+ for a BROWSER? I love the Chromium idea. Its awesome idea. We don't need power machine to run a browser, not even for flash or html5 video or anything else…. Why they put so expensive hardware in it? Thy want to kill it, so android wins…

    4. My Google cr-48 wins hands down. These ought to be cheap in a few months……..rick1959, cr-48 Pilot

    6. $200 is the key price-point. Google should have subsidized this.

    7. why are they using an Intel Atom–that chip costs 75 to 100. if they use tegra 3 it could cost only 20 and have a better processor—and drop the price by 60+ at least.

    8. Key thing missing is the whether or not this has an SSD (guessing it will) and what size it will be. 32 gigs and I think for the size and specs, it's not an unreasonable price. I would have loved to see a $300 price point., but I'm still listening at $429 and waiting to see if a processor type and SSD are finalized.

You can get a $200 windows netbook, but then you'll have a $200 Windows netbook.

And, the Samsung looks pretty slick.

    9. $429?!?! There's no way! This is a huge mistake. There are dozens of laptops already on the market – FULL laptops with Windows and everything – for up to $100 less than that. $400 is tablet territory, and most people will opt for the tablet at that point.

    10. I like the idea and I do like my CR48 but if I had the money I would buy an iPad 2 before one of these. It does have a really sleek look for sure though.

    11. I tend to agree the price point is steep for this class of laptop. But I'll reserve judgement until I have one in front of me. If I get to do a hardware review on this also.

    12. I agree they really dropped the ball on the price point. I like that it has a HD can, but my CR-48 has a better battery life rating (Which appears to be quite accurate as opposed to my MacBook pro which only gets about 4 even though its rated for 9. )

$250 – $300 is gonna be the price point these need to be sold at.

    14. Way to much money! I have a CR-48 and it runs as fast as my 6 year old IBM Thinkpad.

They are not going to sell well in this economy!

    15. Processor not enough. But i think price is good compare with other products.

    17. Users are advised to verify the model number of their phones since the Android 4.1 phones XXDMB3 Jelly Bean firmware works only with Samsung …

    18. awesome notebook i love to buy this notebook
