Chrome Web Store – A Quick Tour
So, it has been over a week since Google announced the Chrome Web Store. We’ve even written a guide on what we believe are the 10 best Web Applications thus far. Even so, a quick perusal of the Chrome OS forums reveals that not everyone is particularly knowledgeable as to what the Web Store is and how it works. We’ve had individuals who have never used the Chrome Browser and have recently received the CR-48 Chrome Notebook and have no clue what the difference between a Web App and Chrome extension is.

2 Comments Is Google’s Chrome OS An ‘Evil’ Idea?
Richard Stallman, (founder of the Free Software Foundation and creator of the operating system GNU) has sent a chilling warning to all Google lovers out there; especially those planning on purchasing Chrome OS devices next year. His warning is clear and simple; ‘Chrome OS is evil because it forces people to store all their data on the cloud’. During an interview with the Guardian Newspaper, Richard seems to have gone through a lengthily tirade about how people have become dumb enough to fall for Chrome OS due to all the media hype. He seems to elude to people’s laziness as a contributing factor in ‘subcontracting’ their personal data to the cloud. He calls it “careless computing”.

If you are familiar with TweetDeck on the Ipad, Android or any other platform you will love the web application version. It was designed to run fully in the browser using Chrome OS, the Chrome Browser or Google TV. So if you have a CR-48, this is a must see application.

We can well and truly say that year 2011 will be ‘the year of web applications’ (powered by Chrome and Chrome OS of course). Apple changed everything when they first introduced their IOS for the IPhone and their Ipods. More-so, with the entry of the Ipad it seems like ‘Apps’ now make the world go round; but you can have an app for anything, but you can’t run your app on anything. That’s the big problem!

A few days ago Google unveiled their new Web Store during their much anticipated Chrome Event. If there is any such thing, this video is definitely the definitive ‘Chrome Notebooks for dummies’. Google has taken time to explain how Chrome Notebooks (rather than Chrome OS Netbooks) will operate. The big questions I have heard from a lot of potential Chrome OS users is; ‘how is a Chrome Notebook actually different from my current netbook’. Well, Google will believes they have the answer.

1 Comment Google’s Chrome Snyc – Explained
Among the many features that Google showed off yesterday during the launch of the Chrome OS Beta was ‘Sync’. This feature will be enabled by default in all Chrome OS devices but would have to be enabled in the Chrome Browser (see tutorial below). Sync is basically Google’s attempt to decentralize the user’s experience from a specific machine to allowing the user to experience the same UI and settings no matter what machine they log on to. See the above video for a great explanation of how this works.
